For the jack­et of my col­lec­tion of sci­ence essays, the pub­lish­er pro­posed a rep­re­sen­ta­tion of the Man­del­brot set, a com­put­er-gen­er­at­ed math­e­mat­i­cal pat­tern of won­der­ful com­plex­i­ty, one of a fam­i­ly of pat­terns called fractals.
